I’m currently writing a book on Delhi ca. 1950 to 1980. It examines changes to the city’s built form through modernist planning and architecture.

Much of my academic work has been focused on the city of Benares (Varanasi) and its colonial history. I’ve written about the city’s urbanism, Sanskrit education, and colonial bureaucracy.

I teach a course on global heavy metal and have written recently about extreme music and the ethics of listening. In Feb 2024 I’m convening a conference on black metal and anti-fascism.
